The trips

Penguins at Danco Island.

Part 8: Antarctica

The expedition to the 7th continent had it all: giant icebergs, penguins, whales, birds, historic settlements and breathtaking scenery. And yes, we all did the freezing polar plunge and can brag about it for the rest of our lives!

Part 7: Tbilisi – Istanbul

The Great Overland Adventure is on tour again! To get back on track with the original itinerary, we decided to do a small jump and do Georgia and Turkey – more precisely to travel from Tbilisi to Istanbul!

Part 6: Rickshaw Run Sri Lanka

The world was slowly recovering from Covid-19 and the possibility for new adventures opened up again (yay!). So we thought: Why not drive around by ourselves in a tiny tin can on narrow roads in Sri Lanka?

Part 5: Ecuador & Colombia

After 20 very strange months, we were superexcited when we FINALLY could go travelling again and to a very exciting part of the world….Ecuador & Colombia, including Galapagos Islands and the Amazon Rainforest.

Part 4: Oslo – Oslo (Covid edition)

The plan was to go back to Islamabad and continue on the Karakoram Highway, into China, then onwards to the “Stan” countries, but then the corona pandemic came along and put a firm stop to this plan.

Part 3: Dhaka – Delhi – Islamabad

The third leg of the great overland adventure at first gave us a minor headache. We wanted to start in Delhi, where we ended last year, before moving on to the stan-countries.

Part 2: Shanghai – Delhi

The second leg took us back to the final destination of Leg 1: Shanghai! From Shanghai we took the railway from Shanghai to Lhasa, the highest railway line in the world.

Part 1: Oslo – Shanghai

The first part of The Great Overland Adventure took us by train from Oslo to Shanghai. An absolutely epic adventure of 11 000 ++ kilometers mostly by train, including 7 nights on trains.

Eddie The Travelling Eagle

Eddie the travelling eagle… Or amongst friends and fans: Eddie!

Who is this little bunch of joy and fur who keeps on photobombing most of the pictures on this page? Why is he even there and what is the story behind him?

The simple answer is that his caretakers aren’t too keen in posing on pictures (while he looooves it) and it is much more fun posting pictures and tell the story behind them through the eyes of an eagle.

The longer version and tale started when we planned our first overland adventure from Oslo to Shanghai (which we at that time didn’t know was the beginning of ‘The Great Overland Adventure’), and were asked to post ‘lots of pictures’ from the Trans-Siberian Railway. As pictures of ourselves in front of X and Y aren’t our cup of tea we decided to see if we could find a mascot and while strolling around in a toy shop, looking for the perfect one… there he was… staring up at us with his big pink eyes… we were sold and took him home with us!

So…off we went on our first overland adventure! We didn’t quite know how we were going to use him or IF we would share any pictures with him at all, but slowly he became ‘one of us’ and we sat him up in the various situations we experienced or thought was funny. When we finally decided to post our pictures and tell the stories (often written after a glass or 2… as famous artists often do) we got positive feedback and decided to continue his (and our) journey together…

Who are Eddie’s caretakers?

Mari and Bente. That’s all you need to know, right?
